The latest release from Brooklyn based soul music label Daptone Records comes from Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens. It’s called “What Have You Done” off the album What Have You Done, My Brother. I first heard about Naomi Shelton from a family friend back in the spring, who told me she was famous for doing these amazing live shows in some church basement in Manhattan. Shelton’s kinda old, but she’s got soul, man. She looks like she could be labelmate Sharon Jones‘ auntie, and sounds like that too. I just copped their new album, and look forward to giving it some serious burn.
