Battle of the Bergs

I often sit back and wonder what my life would have been like if I didn’t move from Berkeley, California to White Plains, New York at the end of my kindergarten year.  Would I still have been a major east coast rap fan?  Or would I have been into E-40?  And what about my friends?  Who would I be hanging out with all the time if I still lived there?

I think I may have found the answer to that last question.  Andy Samberg.  I first saw Samberg on Saturday Night Live a while back when he and Justin Timberlake did the “Dick in a Box” video.  I’m sure you’ve seen it, but here it is anyway, it’s awesome…

Then he popped up again on my radar, this time as the hilarious 90’s R & B rapper Blizzard Man, check his style out…

Theeeeeeeennnnnnn, I saw his very slept on movie, Hot Rod (pic below), which was actually pretty funny.  Turns out Andy grew up in Berkeley, California and was also born in 1978 and went to Berkeley High School, which means if I never moved to New York we would have been classmates.  Crazy huh?

Well last Saturday, when everyone tuned into SNL to see Sarah Palin, there was a sub-plot that I must admit I was more interested in.  Samberg had recently done an impersonation of Mark Wahlberg, and Wahlberg didn’t like it very much.  First watch the clip of Samberg’s impersonation of Wahlberg, it’s spot on, then check out Marky Mark’s reaction to it on Jimmy Kimmel…

Well Wahlberg kept his word and popped up on the show to address Samberg in person.  Funny stuff, check it out…

So now I’m officially an Andy Samberg fan.  Who knows, if I never moved east we might have been besties.  He’s a funny guy, so keep your eyes out for him, he’s got a couple movies coming out in the next year.  His website THE LONELY ISLAND he keeps with his two boys, who both also write for SNL, has lots of laugh out loud content…And check for two other classic clips from him, the Chronicles of Narnia “Lazy Sunday” rap (which first made him famous), and the sketch where Superbad’s Jonah Hill dates Samberg’s Dad…As for Wahlberg, well he was a good sport, and he is the executive producer of Entourage, so props are due…
