In the late 70s and early 80s, Crenshaw high school was a baseball powerhouse of epic proportions. The ’79 edition of the team featured future major leaguers Darryl Strawberry and Chris Brown, and is considered the greatest team never to have won an LA high school championship. Their season and loss in the finals to John Elway and the Valley Boys from Granada Hills is well chronicled in Michael Sokolove’s The Ticket Out.
