Put On

Youth

I saw this on Kanye West’s blog and I had to post it here on Westcheddar.  I work with little kids everyday, and they know the words to Kanye’s whole new album.  I play it in the Art Center while they work on projects (It has no curses!)  Well this little girl seems to be pretty familiar Kanye West’s verse from “Put On” (not on the new album it’s on Jeezy’s), curses and all…watch this now it’s adorable…

I love how these parents put their kid’s videos on Youtube.  I’m a fan of it.  You should see how many hits these clips get!!!!  Look at this one.  I’m sure you’ve seen it.  It has almost 70 million views.  Unreal!  The kids in my digital arts lab watch this all the time…

This one is my fiancee’s favorite, and the last one I will share.  “I’m gonna kick his ask!”…the kids watch this one too…3 million views…not bad!

Hollerrrrrrr…

I’m starting to branch out during my work day to other BGC’s in the Northern Westchester area, establishing Cultural Arts programs at the different local clubs.  A few days ago, I spent the afternoon at our Yorktown center, which is filled with funny kids.  They’ve got a cool club up there in Y-town I can’t front.  Check out this Cribs style Behind the Scenes tour I helped them put together to get a taste of what their daily life is like up there.  It’s a hoot of a video…

I’m definitely looking forward to working with these kids some more.  Looks like Snowflake’s got some competition now…stay tuned!!!!

We’re about five weeks into our Wednesday night BGC Beat Club up at the Cultural Arts Center, and I must say, this last session I saw the original vision for the teen hip hop program come to fruition perfectly.  I brought in Lord Judah (above right), my dude from White Plains who teaches hip hop workshops for kids all over Westchester and NYC, to help lead us from the very first week.  We’ve worked together alot in the past (and performed together) and through a grant provided by the Westchester Arts Council I was able to pay him for his time.  He brings all his beat machines (SP-505, SP 606, and we own a SP-404 at the club) and works with the kids on production, teaching them how to program drums and sample songs, and even dabbling in hip hop history and songwriting with them.  With the use of Garage Band, which you can actually chop samples really easily on the low with, and all the other equipment, we created alot of possibilities for the kids to choose from to make tracks.  Some are more into writing, so we work with them on their bars and hook them up with lots of instrumentals to write to while our beat team puts together original joints for them.  And some just want to dance, like my dudes Team Highlite who I featured recently right here at Westcheddar.  Check them out dancing to one of my new songs “Do the Dumb Out”…LOL at me going in at 2:50….

That video was made in one take, just a warm up of sorts.  I played them the song last week, which they actually inspired me to make (I never made a dance song before!), and they loved it and couldn’t stop singing it.  You should hear them imitate my voice, it’s hysterical.  All they ever want to do is dance, and I support that completely, kna’ mean?  I’m glad they felt it.  We got some other great footage too that I’ll be helping the kids put together next week…

No that’s not a gang sign, that’s the Team Highlite symbol, ya heard?  Check some other pics of what’s been going on in the lab.  Our set up is tight.  We have one room for dancing and a lab for making beats, recording, and writing…

Kick It

Coloring Sheets, My Dudes, Youth

A bunch of the girls at the BGC come into the Cultural Arts Center rocking these new Pastry sneakers (above).  They’re pretty fresh.  Pastry is the brand started by Run’s House “Simmons Sisters” Angela and Vanessa.  They actually have a spinoff starting soon of the popular MTV show (which I admit to watching, it’s fun and my fiancee loves it), called DADDY’S GIRLS.  Check out a picture of the Angela and Vanessa with my dudes from Dirty Jax…

Well, by request, I revealed a new sneaker design coloring sheet called the BGC PASTRY, based off the sneaker at the top of the post.  It’s become very popular with all the kids in the center, check it out…

There’s been quite a few kids that have come up with great designs and color schemes, but this one below is the hottest one I’ve seen yet.  It was actually done by one of the college aged staff girls….

Her third grade group is really into the sneaker design, so she started a 3rd Grade Kicks wall in her classroom.  It’s only a week old, so we’ll see how it grows, but take a look at it so far…

Stay tuned for more new coloring sheets.  I’ve got my mind on some new sneaker designs.  I think I’m gonna do a skate shoe next.  And you can check out my past designs at the links below if you missed them, including “Sneaker of the Week” winners from the summer, and my full ’07-’08 coloring sheet collection that I posted a few months back…

I’m not even going to tell you this 7th grade kid’s real first name (though it’s revealed in the credits of the movie below) because everyone that he knows calls him SNOWFLAKE.  From adult staff to kindergarteners, that’s how he is addressed.  He actually came up with the nickname himself last year, and it stuck like crazy, and now, that’s it.  He’s SNOWFLAKE.  Hilarious.  But a couple weeks ago, Snowflake created a new alter ego for himself, MARIO.  He went around the club interviewing kids, staff, and even a dog, about what they were going to be for halloween in a made up accent that sounds like a mix of my fiancee’s Italian grandmother and Borat.  This kid is great.  Check it out…Mama Mia!

More Snowflake videos coming soon…

Young Veteran

My Dudes, The Good Old Days, Youth

My dude Mike Halas (above, third from right with the medals on his coat) celebrated Veteran’s Day with students at Battle Mountain High School out in Vail, Colorado, speaking to them about what it is like to be a 29 year old Iraq War veteran.  I’m so proud of him, and glad that he is out talking to the youth, helping them to understand what it really means to be a part of the U.S. military.  Here at Westcheddar, we celebrate you Mikey.  Keep up the good work.  Check out the article below from the Vail Daily all about Mike’s visit to the local school, and if you missed my interview with him from last month about his time in Iraq, check that out too.  Oh, and the pic is from my sister Becca’s recent wedding in NYC, with me, Mike’s brother John, all the Cuddy boys, my cousin Chris (No Mas), and Battle Hill legend Vito Fascilla.  Peace…

The Staj Girls are an all female hip hop dance group out of Peekskill, New York, and they are SOOOO GOOD.  They’ve come to the BGC where I work a few times to perform, most recently last Friday at our Status Show, and wow are they talented.  They are one big group made up of Staj and the Stajettes, Staj being more high school aged girls and the Stajettes are definitely still in elementary school, please believe it.  Together, they tear down the house with tight choreography, energy, natural talent, and cute outfits!  Check out their performance from last Friday’s show (don’t miss the end with just the Stajettes dancing to the new Beyonce song it’s the best part trust me)…

I had to give their coach props after the show because every time they come to perform they kill it.  Here’s one of their past performances, from March 2008, it’s awesome (4 minutes in is sick!)…

Keep an eye out for these girls, they already have videos on youtube with 400,000 hits!  Check out their Youtube page for more clips…

Real Breezy

My Dudes, Youth

Here’s a video of my young dude Sosa, DMX’s son who frequents my Cultural Arts Center to hang out and record, spitting over a beat played live by his friend and upcoming producer on a sampler.  He goes in pretty explicitly about the amount of women that are trying to holler, and claims that to get at him they need to put their name on a “sign up sheet”!  Ha!  Check it out, he’s nice, and he’s only 15 years old talking REAL BREEZY…

These kids are in middle school, and they come to the Cultural Arts Center to Get Light every week.  Their squad is called Team Highlite, and they are performing in Mt. Kisco at our upcoming AIDS Awareness event this Friday.  Check the video.  Switch!!!!!
