Thanks to Spotify, I’ve discovered yet another dope song by a band I had never heard of. This one’s by indie funksters the Magic City Hippies, and it’s called “Limestone.” If you fucked with this smooth-ass Leisure song I posted a couple weeks ago, you’ll probably dig this. Vibe out.
Dirk Diggler
Late Pass, MusicI need a late pass for this. Shouts to Hempstead MC SmooVth, and Manu Beats who laced the beat. Sick track, sorry I slept.
Rex Ryan
Music, VideosNew visuals for one of the illest rap collabs of 2015, “Rex Ryan” featuring Conway, Westside Gunn, and Roc Marciano, with Daringer behind the boards. Let’s go.
Never Let Me Down
MusicSpoon frontman Britt Daniel pays tribute to David Bowie with a raw, acoustic cover of “Never Let Me Down.” Nicely done.
Knock Out Blows
Mixtape Memories, MusicJust got my hands on this 2010 Roc Marciano x J-Love mixtape Knock Out Blows, and figured I’d share it while we all patiently wait for Roc to drop his next project. It features a bunch of Marcberg era classics, plus mad gems and rarities you may or may not be familiar with. I can’t front, I just pressed play on that “Fire Power” and it gave me new life! Enjoy…
*UPDATE* “As Long As It’s Real” is my new favorite rap song. Whooo!

#Mood
MusicI’m not the biggest fan of trap rap, but this joint #Mood by Atlanta rapper 31 is smooth. Maybe it’s the “don’t fuck with me” vocal sample that made me hit the rewind button, or the fact that dude is spitting kinda vicious on it. Or it could be the laid-back vibe of the beat. Probably a combo of the three. Check it out, it might become your new anthem! Props to my boy dubmaxx, dude always has his ear to the streets. Nice find.
My City
MusicD.I.T.C. continues to drop new music this week with a fresh banger by O.C. titled “My City.” This shit is hard, and it features the same Menahan Street Band sample I used on “The Working Man Is A Sucker.” Great to hear O.C. doing what he does best, dude has always been one of my favorite MCs. Knock this.
Spade Speaks
Comedy, Interviews, PodcastsI’m an SNL baby, so dudes like David Spade were huge influences on my sense of humor as a middle/high school kid. I just finished listening to his sit-down with Marc Maron, and it was surprisingly one of my favorite WTF episodes in a long time. Lots of interesting and funny stories about his upbringing in Arizona, his career as a stand-up comic, and of course his stint on Saturday Night Live with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, and the rest of the gang. Plus current personal shit I never knew about, like his relationship with his 7-year-old daughter, and a crazy story about an assistant of his who broke into his house a few years ago and basically tried to kill him while he was sleeping. Listen above, or stream on whatever podcast outlet you prefer.
Surf’s Up
Music, VideosI gotta give props once again to Spotify for putting me on to this band PALMAS on my latest Weekly Discovery playlist. Their Soundcloud page describes their music as East Coast surf/soul, which I’d say is completely accurate, though I would’ve never guessed they had roots in Philly and New York. Love their song above titled “You Were My Girl,” it’s got awesome harmonies and an overall dreamy, breezy feel that makes me miss my California homeland. It sounds like some shit my pops would’ve listened to back in the day, driving his Woodie through Venice on his way to The Apple Pan. Check it out, and then peep their new EP To The Valley for more of the same (available now on Spotify or for purchase on 10” vinyl).
*Bonus* Here’s a clip of two dudes from PALMAS doing an acoustic version of my favorite song off the EP, “Better Guy”…
Uptown Renaissance
Music, VideosSome new shit coming out of the Bronx by Westside Parlé, featuring YounG Cashus88 with some opening bars. Keep your eyes out for these dudes.
Speaking of the BX, I wonder what ever happened to these kids. They were dope.
