The Great Debate

Uncategorized

In the spirit of today’s ganja holiday (OMG it’s 4/20!), I present to you two of the most legendary rappers to ever come out of the 914, Jadakiss and Styles P of The LOX, debating on which strand of weed is better, Purple Haze or Sour Diesel. It’s quite a discussion, with brilliant quotables. Kiss is for Haze, saying, “It’s tastes like the 90’s.” Styles is rocking’ with Sour though, as he responds, “I need some new shit, kid.” And it goes on from there. So dumb, yet so entertaining. Light up!

Long Vows

Events

Oh shit! A live video of a new Band of Horses song just showed up in my email! Those are my dudes! It’s titled “Long Vows” on YouTube and in this post, but that’s not the official name of the track, so for now consider it an untitled gem with a nickname. The clip was filmed live at Lollapalooza Brazil, and supposedly, the song is from their new album which they are recording with recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glyn Johns, who has worked with everyone from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin. Hopefully we will hear more new material surface soon. BOH 4 LIFE!!!!

There’s a bunch of new hip-hop shit out that I’m feeling. Please allow me to put you on and recap some of the highlights of this past week in rap music. First, DMV representative Oddisee, who I know from my Maryland days, has a couple new songs out that I’m fuckin’ with. On the underground scene, he is highly respected for his production. But as a rapper, he’s kind of slept on. Ever since I heard him spitting on the Diamond District album and in this little video shot at Peter Rosenberg’s crib, I’ve been hoping he would drop some sort of solo project. And word is that he has a solo album coming out titled People Hear What They See (drops June 12th). Should be ill. Check out two new cuts of his, both which will not be on his new album, but are nevertheless worth repeated listens. First is “Hustle Off,” and the other is “Slow It Down” (download them for free too)…

You may have seen my recent post on a new rapper I really like out of Detroit/Chicago by the name of Denmark Vessey. Well, Quelle Chris is his boy (he’s on Denny’s “Green Party Swishercrat”), and is down with their Crown Nation conglomerate, and he has some heat too. His latest song/video “Live Alone Die Alone” is dope. Check it out below, and you can get his new EP 2Dirt4TV HERE.

Oh, and Denmark Vessey dropped some new shit this week too called “Cult Classic.” It’s so fresh that I’m gonna post it again for those of you that missed my update

Ok, I’m not the biggest J. Cole fan, but “Sideline Story” is by far my favorite song of his. It’s the title track off his debut album, and this week, he dropped some visuals for it, showing him overseas during his European tour…

What else? Oh yeah, the most underrated rapper in the game, Curren$y! The Hot Spitta! Watch him close his eyes and murder this Alchemist beat with the laid-back, mean New Orleans flow, on DJ Tony Touch’s Toca Tuesdays Sirius/Shade 45 radio show…

And while we’re on the topic of Curren$y, his boy Young Roddy dropped a new mixtape recently titled Good Sense (download it HERE). Dude is nice with it, and picks quality beats for the blunted heads to bop to. Listen to the title track below, it’s very niiiice….

Finally, if you peeped my Leaders Of The New School post recently, you know that I really like this kid out of Brooklyn Joey Bada$$. Well, his boy from their Pro.Era crew Capital STEEZ has a new mixtape out (he’s the other rapper on “Survival Tactics,” and it’s definitely worth checking out. Joey makes an appearance, and even assists with the production/beat selection, but actually Capital STEEZ holds his own just fine and proves that the Pro.Era crew ain’t nothin’ to fuck with in 2012. Consider it a warm up for Joey Bada$$’s 1999 mixtape, which supposedly is dropping in the next month…

So that’s my Spring Salad. Mad flavor, right? Happy Friday the 13th! Enjoy your weekend Westcheddar…

Rap Mitzvah

Uncategorized

This isn’t really one of my favorite Drake tracks on Take Care, but the video for “HYFR” is off the hook. Drizzly glorifies the passage to manhood with Lil’ Wayne by celebrating at the wildest Bar Mitzvah (well, Re-Bar Mitzvah) you’ve ever seen on camera.

I think I like this song a lot better now. L’Chaim!

Double Clutch

Events, Sports

It’s not often that I literally jump up on my couch filled with joy while watching the Knicks. Usually, I’m throwing the remote in frustration. But it happened yesterday against the Bulls. Twice. Props to Carmelo Anthony for putting on one of the greatest holiday performances Madison Square Garden has ever seen. 43 points, and two enormous 3s. First, to tie and send it to overtime. Then, from the same spot, down by two, to win the game. Watch them both below…

Wow.

Aziz Steez

Events

Aziz Ansari is probably my favorite stand-up comedian on the scene right now. He’s got great energy, awesome material, and he’s relatable to my generation. One of my favorite things about him is his ability to tell stories about his interactions with famous rappers. He talked about hanging out with Kanye West on his first DVD, and told a hilarious story about how Jay-Z doesn’t like the movie E.T. on his Juan Epstein appearance a few months back. And now, on his new online special Dangerously Delicious, which you can cop HERE for $5, he tells a story about how he eavesdropped on 50 Cent in a restaurant and discovered that 50 didn’t know what a grapefruit was. LOL on a hundred thousand trillion…

And for those of you who like to read interviews (I DO!), check out his sit-down “Dinner with Daniel” on Grantland HERE. It’s a fun read! Aziz came back to Juan Epstein last week too, which you can download HERE. I might have to go check this dude one night during his new tour (see poster above and click HERE for dates). I haven’t seen a comedian live in concert since Dave Chappelle came to the University of Maryland in the late 90s. Good shit Aziz!

Thai Joint

Uncategorized

I stumbled upon this video by rapper Denmark Vessey called “That One Thai Joint” on Egotripland a week or so ago (watch above), and I love it. The beat is SICK. And dude can spit too. I immediately dug deeper to see what he was all about. Turns out he’s a Detroit native now holding it down in Chicago, and he’s starting to build a buzz with his “Leakly Weeks” series where he drops a new video every Monday. Check out “Green Party Swishercrat” below also, a smoker’s song of his that I’m feeling…

More on Denmark Vessey HERE, and follow him on Twitter to stay up on all his new shit. One.

The Tanning Interview with Nigel Sylvester

Interviews, Published Material, Sports, Youth

For my latest interview with Steve Stoute’s site The Tanning of America, I had the opportunity to talk to BMX pro Nigel Sylvester. Check the intro, a video of him biking through NYC (he’s from Jamaica, Queens), and the link to the interview below…

African-American professional BMX bike rider Nigel Sylvester is one of the premiere sensations in his rapidly growing sport. A native of Jamaica, Queens, Nigel first got put on to the pro world of BMX at age 12 while watching the X Games on television. He immediately went outside, grabbed his bike, and tried to mimic every trick he had just seen. Since then, his number one passion in life has been riding BMX bikes and embodying the culture that goes along with it. After crafting his style on the streets of New York City, he was noticed by legendary BMX rider Dave Mirra, who gave him his first sponsorship. And now, he is sponsored by enormous brands like Nike 6.0 and Gatorade, and leading the sport of BMX to the next level through his exciting, hip-hop infused videos, filmed worldwide. The catch is that he doesn’t compete anymore. He’s a pro street rider, for real.

In this in-depth interview, Nigel talks about how he handled being called “whiteboy” as a young teenager due to his interest in BMX, his run-ins with the police in New York City parks, his experiences traveling the world as a pro, and his hands on involvement in the production of his BMX videos. Plus, he discusses interracial dating, his love of hip-hop music, how he felt seeing Pharrell ride a BMX bike in N.E.R.D.’s “Provider” music video, and what exactly being a professional BMX bike rider entails for him in 2012.

Knicks Rap 2012

My Dudes, Sports, Stan Ipcus

Yo, this Knicks season has been sooooooo crazy. Melo-drama, Lin-sanity, you name it. Shit, Amar’e lost his brother in a car accident. They got rid of D’Antoni. Injury after injury. Winning streaks. Losing streaks. FUCKING NUTS. Now that Lin is out for the season, and Amar’e is out for the next couple weeks, it really is going to be interesting as we move towards the playoffs. Anyway, I’m a little late in posting this here. In fact, the day I wrote and filmed this, which was a week and a half ago, things were on the up and up, which is why I did it in the first place, and the reason I’m so damn jovial in the video. Check the stylings of me and my young boy Lonie Rock on the beat box as we pay tribute to our 2012 Knicks. One time, one take (you know how we do). Shout to TheKnicksBlog and Posting and Toasting for showing this some love, and my man J. Tunes for the camera work…

I’m out like D’Antoni. Ha!
