Dope Duets

Published Material

Okay, I’m still getting back into the swing of things here at Westcheddar, and figured it would be a good idea to do a little rap roundup of sorts. Gonna focus in on some of the dope duets that have surfaced recently. Let’s get it.

Cormega ft. Black Rob “Home” (Prod. by Large Professor)

Throwing this up first because it’s my favorite rap song of the summer. I’ve been thumping it nonstop. Large Pro, you did your thing on this! This is one of those beats that makes me want to rap. And I must say that in general I’ve never been a huge Black Rob fan, but he sounds ill on this track alongside Cormega. Oh, and shouts to Ron G on the intro!!

Knowledge the Pirate & Roc Marciano “Respect the Shooter”

Another nice track from Roc Marciano and his Co-D Knowledge the Pirate. Always good to get new music from these two guys. Keep it coming!

Your Old Droog ft. Prodigy “Hoodie Weather” (Prod. by Marco Polo)

I recently wrote about Your Old Droog on here as an attempt to make up for lost ground on Westcheddar. He’s definitely the most exciting rookie in rap right now. And he continues to deliver heat with his latest leak “Hoodie Weather” featuring one of my favorite rappers of all-time, Prodigy of Mobb Deep. This shit knocks. Big ups Marco Polo on the beat, he laced it. Perfect timing on the song drop, too.

This week I officially had my final feature published on NahRight, so I figured I’d share it here as a way to wrap up my work on the site. It’s a list of RZA’s best solo songs, sponsored by Dr. Pepper. Some of my favorite rap tracks ever are on this list, specifically “Sunshower,” “Twelve Jewelz,” and “Samurai Showdown.” And the freestyle at the end is insane. Enjoy.

Damn son, I fell off. I vowed to never neglect my baby, Westcheddar, and I have. I’m sorry fam. But I’ve been busy as shit with my actual babies, and taking care of business working my full-time job and writing for NahRight and doing other side work. And in the meantime, I dropped an album on iTunes! My first official album release ever after rapping for almost two decades (that’s crazy). It’s called Local Legend, and it’s ten of my favorite tracks of all-time, on one album, put together to tell my story and showcase my MC and production abilities. I’m very happy with how it was received, and I want to make sure it’s the top post here on Westcheddar while I’m off doing other things. Gonna post a bunch of Local Legend related stuff below. Ready? Heeeere we go…

I interviewed my favorite rapper of all-time, Action Bronson, for the third time recently. I’m trying to be the Howard Cosell to his Cassius Clay. LOL. Anyway, we spoke about his recent European tour, and his touring life in general both on and off stage, for my latest NahRight The Green Room feature. Check it out below…

And to follow, I spoke with Party Supplies about their upcoming sequel to Blue Chips…

Also, you HAVE TO check out this video of Bam Bam performing live from a nursing home in the UK. It popped up after our interview, or else I would have definitely asked about this. Too much fun.

“Thanks guys. Now I’m gonna hand out chocolates.” Amazing. Peace family.

Okay, I’m giving this new Williie the Kid and Alchemist EP Masterpiece Theatre a very sincere and serious co-sign right now. From top to bottom, this shit is awesome. I’ve been telling my friends who have never heard of Willie that if you love old Wu-Tang shit, you will love this. Alchemist killed all the beats with hard drums and crazy samples, and Willie is nice as fuck on the mic. I’m really impressed. Watch the lead video for the project, “Halal Tuna,” listen to his collabo leak off the EP with Action Bronson and Roc Marciano, and then read our exclusive NahRight Listener’s Guide where Willie himself walks us through each song. Link to purchase the whole project is HERE. Best five bones I’ve spent in a long time.

I had the pleasure of interviewing my fourth member of Wu-Tang Clan, U-God (above left), to set off our new series called The Green Room, where we talk to artists about their life on tour. This is one of the funniest interviews I’ve ever done. Lots of great stories and memories, and I found a couple ill videos too. Must read for Wu fanatics. Link below.

Before Reasonable Doubt

To celebrate Jay-Z’s new album Magna Carta Holy Grail, I put together a collection of early Jay-Z videos for NahRight. Check the intro, and the link below…

This Monday, Jay-Z will officially give the world his latest LP, Magna Carta Holy Grail. We’ve already seen a rollout unlike any other hip-hop album release in history, complete with a surprise NBA Finals commercial drop announcement, an exclusive Samsung deal and app that under Jay’s #newrules put MCHG at platinum status before one CD hit stores, and a two-week trolling period filled with lyric sheets, video clips, and no actual music that raised the album’s anticipation to an all-time high.

At midnight on July 4th, when the album was first made exclusively available to Samsung phone holders, we all sat and listened, praising it and picking it apart, comparing it to his past efforts. Even the least crafty iPhone owners were able to get their hands on a leak, and if not, they tuned in to Funkmaster Flex, who played MCHG in its entirety on Hot 97 for all to enjoy. It was an epic night for hip-hop, and another notch on the belt of the most accomplished rapper ever.

While examining Jay’s evolving greatness, and discussing where his new LP ranks amongst the rest of his discography, it’s important that we also take a sec to think back to his humble beginnings, before he ever even had an album out. Hov’s come along way since he was making guest appearances alongside Brooklyn greats Big Daddy Kane and Jaz-O in the early ‘90s, and putting out his own on-location Caribbean music videos without a record deal. So as we toast to another Jay-Z win, let’s revisit 5 Pre-Reasonable Doubt music videos that introduced us to his phenomenal MC talents, and hinted at how successful he would one day become. Respect this here.

Action Bronson’s 10 Best Collabos of 2013 (So Far)

Published Material

action-bronson-raekwon

Okay, so I did my first NahRight feature on Action Bronson last week. Check the intro, and then click the link to read in full…

There’s no question that Action Bronson had a huge 2012. The Flushing, Queens rapper, best known for his crimson beard and foodie flows, released two of the best projects of the year—Blue Chips with Party Supplies and Rare Chandeliers with Alchemist—and made a ton of guest appearances too, solidifying himself as a hip-hop heavyweight not to be fucked with on the mic.

In 2013, he’s taken his career to another level, earning an overdue spot on the XXL Freshman cover, releasing his first big radio smash “Strictly 4 My Jeeps,” and dropping his long-awaited EP with Harry Fraud Saaab Stories via Atlantic Records. Plus, he’s been on everyone’s project, from A$AP Rocky’s to Mac Miller’s to Chance The Rapper’s to Prodigy & Alchemist’s. Let’s face it, Bronsolino is a star, and everyone in hip-hop from up-and-coming artists to legendary MCs in the game now recognizes that.

It’s only June, but after compiling a playlist of our favorite 2013 Bam Bam tracks earlier this week, we decided that we should take a moment to highlight the wealth of dope collaborations he’s already done this year. We’re bound to hear more before the ‘13 is out, but sometimes it’s important to pause and celebrate history while it’s still in the making. These are Action Bronson’s 10 Best Collabos of 2013 (So Far).
