D’Angelo in D.C.

Music, The Good Old Days, Videos

I saw D’Angelo at Constitution Hall back in 2000 after Voodoo dropped, and it was one of the greatest concerts I’ve ever been to. But this particular footage is from 1996, and features him running through tracks off his debut Brown Sugar, and laying down some silky covers, too. Enjoy.

P.S. I saw my dude Preezy post on Twitter that he likes Brown Sugar over Voodoo, and I had to jump in and agree, comparing the two to Nas’ Illmatic and It Was Written. Both are classics, but…what do you think? Comment if you give a shit, if not just watch the video above it’s all good haha peace.

The Curve

Music

Wait, Conway and Westside Gunn on the same track as Your Old Droog?!? Worlds collide!! This is one of the illest Statik Selektah beats I’ve ever heard, by the way. Press play, and download for free, too.

Uber Everywhere

Late Pass, Music

I’ve been rocking with this dude madeintyo for a few years now, and it’s nice to see he’s finally buzzing like he deserves to be. He’s been getting great looks online, was a part of the Yams Day tribute concert lineup last month at Terminal 5 in NYC, and this song “Uber Everywhere” got a prominent spin on a recent episode of OVO Radio. Needless to say, madeintyo on his way up. Pre-roll something, and then spark that shit when the beat drops. This is what the new Atlanta sounds like—vibe out.

P.S. Def need a late pass for posting this. Wow, it’s already got over 2 million spins, that’s what’s up! Never too late to support something dope though, gotta keep spreading the word.

Gotta Be Classic

Music

Back-to-back D.I.T.C. posts, fuck with me. Gotta say, the crew is in a great place musically, I’m loving all the recent output. Peep their latest release “Gotta Be Classic,” featuring A.G. and O.C., with production by Showbiz. Dope.

Music, The Good Old Days

Some random roots reggae for you to enjoy, courtesy of the legend Freddie McGregor. Shouts to my dog DJ Destro for putting me on to this years ago, still one of my favorite reggae songs ever. Oy!

The Greatest

Music, Sports, Videos

KING is an R&B trio out of L.A. that I just stumbled upon this week. They’re getting ready to release their debut LP titled We Are KING, and the first single/video off it is “The Greatest.” It seems to be graphically-inspired by classic Nintendo ’80s sports games like Tecmo Bowl and Double Dribble, which makes sense, because they definitely have a smooth, ’80s R&B vibe to their production. Love the harmonies, too.

If you like “The Greatest,” head over to NPR for an early stream of the full album. Enjoy.

Hangin’ With Droog

Music, My Dudes, Podcasts

Your Old Droog was the special guest on this week’s episode of the Juan Epstein podcast, check it out above. They basically just shoot the shit, it’s not a formal interview or anything. But it’s still a fun listen. Peep Droog’s new Marco Polo-produced ode to 42nd Street—”42 (Forty Deuce)”—below, too.
