PREP

Music

Just discovered this London-based band PREP, and I’m an instant fan. Listen to their breakout song “Who’s Got You Singing Again” above (Rolling Stone accurately describes it as “butter-smooth yacht-pop”), and peep their newest tune “Futures” below, which is equally dope.

If you like these guys, I recommend checking out Leisure, a New Zealand band with a similar vibe.

*Update*

PREP’s Futures EP is now available on your favorite streaming sites, go check that out.

Years Ago

Music, The Good Old Days

Attention vinyl collectors! The good people at Dope Folks Records are re-releasing Oakland MC Casual’s slept-on 1997 sophomore album Meanwhile… on limited edition vinyl (only 350 copies).  The follow-up to his classic debut Fear Itself is hard-to-find in physical form—it was originally released only on cassette and then independently on a short run of CDs. So this is a real collector’s item, especially for Hieroglyphics fans. Check out “Years Ago” above, and cop the vinyl here.

Oh, and if you want to stream or download Meanwhile… right now, the cassette version of the whole album is available on Bandcamp.

Saks Fifth Ave

Late Pass, Music

I just got hip to this Chris Crack shit from a couple years back after peeping an impressive live video of him performing it. This dude is too underrated—he’s got pure rap talent and knows how to make dope tracks. Enjoy, and check out “Pine Cones” if you missed it, I still got that one in heavy rotation.

I usually don’t write op-ed stuff, but what happened with Your Old Droog’s BET Hip Hop Awards cypher verse really bothered me. Read below…

Bodmon

Comedy, Late Pass, Music, Videos

In my recent interview with comedian Brandon Wardell, he included a Ramriddlz song as one of the joints he had in Heavy Rotation. And it made me realize that other than “Sweeterman”, the unbelievable original version of the well-known Drake song, I had never really checked out any other Ramriddlz stuff.

So last week, I jumped in a Ramriddlz YouTube rabbit hole, and “Bodmon” immediately became my new favorite of his. That, and this ridiculous interview below. What a hoot…
