New Look Knicks

Events, My Dudes, Sports

Big game last night, and the whole Isenberg Fam was in the building for it.  Shout to my pops, Jimmy I, for coming through with the tickets.  We’d been talking about going to a Knicks game for a while, and I told him the Oklahoma City Thunder was the team to check for right now.  Durant is a scoring machine, and Westbrook is a problem.  Turns out with Tracy McGrady and the rest of the new Knicks making their debut last night after some hyped up trades, we picked the right game to attend.

The Garden was definitely rocking and filled to capacity.  I saw John Starks as we were walking to our seats in the hallway (ironic because McGrady is sporting his #3 now see below), and all I could think to do was yell right in his face “LEGEND”.  He appreciated it.  My wife, who supposedly “loved John Starks” as a teenage girl because she felt bad that he had to wear that mask on his face when he broke his nose back in the day, missed the Starks sighting.  She was too busy talking to my sister about baby furniture or some shit.

It was a great game, neck and neck until the last buzzer, went into overtime, and I gotta say the new Knicks looked good even though they lost.  McGrady had a productive game, making lots of high energy shots and nice passes, but he missed two clutch free throws down the stretch which kinda cost them the win.  And I like Eddie House, he’s a nice addition to the club and brings some personality to the rotation.  For a bunch of guys who’ve never played together, it was a better than decent showing.  I see potential.  But I still think there’s some more guys to get rid of.  And of course, we gotta get Lebron.  Come on Bron Bron, what superstar athlete wouldn’t want to play in New York?  Check the highlights from last night’s game below…

By the way, Durant really is sick with it.  He made some huge shots last night.  He’s my favorite player in the NBA right now.  Check Tommy Dee (who we chilled with at halftime) at The Knicks Blog for more commentary on last night’s game HERE.  Scream.

Totally Toasted

Interviews, My Dudes, Sports, Youth

I’ve been teaching a blogging elective class at a local jewish high school here in Westchester.  My class is made up of a small group of senior boys who kind of remind me of the crew from the movie American Pie.  To their credit, they’re cooler and smarter than those guys, and really passionate about New York sports culture.  So I linked them up with my boy Tommy Dee from The Knicks Blog last week, and they proceeded to throw him in The Toaster, which is an interview show they created for their blog The Bagel’s Roar (a goof on their school’s literary journal The Lion’s Roar).  Watch part one of the video above, where Tommy talks about how he got started blogging and his thoughts on The Knicks this season.  And below, in part two, he discusses why Lebron James should come to New York, his history with jewish girls, and what he likes on his bagel…

I also brought in another prominent sports blogger and author, Adam Zagoria of Zag’s Blog (which gets over a million hits a month), to share some knowledge with my guys from The Bagel’s Roar.  And he ended up getting toasted too…

The Bagel’s Roar is just getting started.  They’re less than a month old, but they’ve got some pretty good stuff up there, including a pretty insane Toaster episode with a kid who got kicked out of school and had to live in the woods for the summer, and also an interview video where they go around asking people at their school who they would hook up with.  Check out their blog HERE.  Shalom.

P.S.  Thanks for the RECOGNITION boys!

*UPDATE*

Check out this interview Tommy Dee did with Will Leitch of Deadspin, where they discuss new sports media.  Interesting…

Matisyahu paid a visit to the Knicks vs. Sixers game in Philadelphia last night to perform the “Star Spangled Banner” with Philly native bandmate Aaron Dugan (above right), and also a set after the last buzzer in celebration of Jewish Heritage Night.  Check the pic..

Here’s some fan footage of his National Anthem rendition…

And earlier in the day, the pair performed a stripped down version of “Thunder”, a song off Matisyahu’s latest album Light, live on Philly’s Preston and Steve radio show (stream full audio from interview and performance HERE thanks Ariel!!!!)…

You’ve come along way from those Highlands basketball courts Matis.  Westcheddar salutes you.  Cheah!!!!!

Here’s To You Mister Robinson

My Dudes, Sports

Nate Robinson (above giving a pound to Will Ferrell last season) dropped 41 on New Year’s Day in Atlanta against the Hawks in his first game back since being benched in early December.  Nice.  It was an exciting performance and a big win for the Knicks.  We got mad love for Nate here at Westcheddar, because he’s known to pop up and play ball at the NYSC in White Plains all the time, and he also runs a basketball camp up in Mount Kisco (where I work) for the local kids.  Here’s his highlights from last night…

Check my boy Tommy Dee at The Knicks Blog for more on last night’s game and The State of Nate…

Keep it up boys!

Home For The Holidays

My Dudes, Sports

My high school buddy Andrew Goldberg, who is now a writer on Family Guy, is in town for Thanksgiving with his wife, staying in his old bedroom in the house he grew up in, just south of Rosedale Avenue in White Plains.  Other than the new king size bed, his room looks just like he left it when he went off to college in the fall of 1996.  Andrew was kind enough to give us a tour of his room, and let us see all his vintage 80’s and 90’s stuff.  Check the video above.  And below, watch a bonus video of Andrew showing off his baseball card knowledge (he does it in the tour above too, but is even more impressive below)…

If you missed Andrew’s interview with Westcheddar, check it out HERE.  And to see clips of the TV show we did in our White Plains High School days, Prime Time with Dan and Andrew, click HERE.

Happy Thanksgiving!

NBC is using Matisyahu’s “One Day” as part of their promotion for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics.  Very cool.  Check the commercial above for a taste.  I hope they give him a chance to perform this at the opening ceremony or something.  And yo, Matis just told me the other day that he recorded a “One Day” remix with Akon.  Wow.  Keep your ears open for that.

No Mas NYC aka “The Mas” recently gave their website a facelift, and added a bunch of new products to their store, including some great new Ali vs. Foreman “Rumble in the Jungle” inspired paintings by David Rathman (example below).  They also have a new blog on the Sporting News website dedicated strictly to boxing called The Rumble.  Check the links.  Shout out to my cousin CI (pictured above in The Fader Magazine 2002)….

*UPDATE*

No Mas just released their latest video, which is an animated tale of when Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis threw a no hitter on June 12th, 1970 while he was on LSD.  The video is narrated by Ellis himself (the audio was taken from an interview with NPR), who passed away last year.  Awesome story, great visuals.  Classic Mas…

Empire State Of Mind

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you should know by now that Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performed “Empire State Of Mind” before the start of game two of the World Series last night in Yankee Stadium.  Hov just keeps getting bigger and bigger huh?  Well today, they finally dropped the highly anticipated, Hype Williams directed video for everyone’s favorite new NYC anthem.  Check it out, it’s awesome…

On a side note, it sounds like Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z have some issues to iron out.  Beans released this diss track of sorts last night (timed perfectly with the Turnpike Series in full swing), and whether you like the message behind it or not, it’s hot.  I love the Prodigy sample on the hook.  But I gotta say, it’s sad when these rap crews fall apart and start beefing with each other.  Anyway, check the song out, it’s called “What You Talkin’ Bout”…

T.G.I.F…I’ll holla…
