I interviewed Joey Bada$$ a few weeks ago for Complex, and at the end of our talk, he played this track for me. And I was listening to it off some computer speakers like, “HOLY SHIT.” His man CJ Fly, who is also on this, was there too. These are some really nice, respectful kids, who are also making the illest and purest hip-hop in New York right now. This “Hardknock” shit is so dope. Don’t sleep, just press play.

Venice Vibes
UncategorizedAvi Buffalo is my dude, and not just because both our real last names are Isenberg. I got mad love for him, and his style of music. His first album is a personal favorite, and stays in constant rotation in my car. He’s a California kid, and being that I was born out there myself, and that both of my parents are from there, I feel very closely connected to his sound. When I listen to it, I honestly feel like I’m transported out west, which gives me this surreal sensation that I try to harness for as long as possible. Check his live, stripped down performance, without his band, of “How Come,” his latest release (it came out almost a year ago) live from the top of a building in Venice Beach. I miss you, California.

It’s amazing how sometimes the next thing I discover that I want to put up on Westcheddar will fit perfectly with my last post. Best Coast is another indie California band, and I’ve heard about them, but never really listened to their music. But their new sophomore album The Only Place just dropped today, and D.A. Wallach of Chester French tweeted out a link to their song “How They Want Me To Be” this afternoon, and I love it. I’ve already listened to it ten times today, with the hope that its beachy mood will drift me away from this rainy Westcheddar madness…
Northern And Roozy
UncategorizedA new Action Bronson single is out now, a collaboration with UK producer The Purist called “Northern And Roozy.” Bronsolino may be my favorite rap personality of all time. I don’t know, at first when people told me to check him out, I wasn’t really feeling his tracks that much. Then, I watched a few of his interviews and freestyle videos on YouTube, and listened to his first album Dr. Lecter in the car all the way through, and now he’s like my favorite person to ever hold a mic. Plus, he’s nice as shit with the lyrics and flows, and picks dope beats. I’m a big fan, but I guess you already know that if you’re an avid Westcheddar reader. Stream his song below, which is perfect for the nice spring and summer weather that is upon us, and peep my Tanning Interview with him HERE if you missed it…
Also, this video is unbelievable! Watch Action Bronson perform live at a Princeton private house party over the weekend. Dude walks through the crowd as he raps, posing for pictures, lighting his long doobie in between verses, and even goes into the house at one point to grab some food. So much fun. Respect this man, he’s a beast…
Yes!
Solid Gold
Uncategorized“Goldie” is probably the hottest new rap song in New York right now. A$AP Rocky and Hit-Boy (who produced Hov and ‘Ye’s “Niggas In Paris”) caught a body with this one. It’s a hit. The video is really well done too. Pretty crazy to see some kids who were probably chillin’ Uptown this time last year dreaming of rap stardom now filming videos under the Eiffel Tower…
Stream more new shit I’m feeling below from a collection of Westcheddar’s favorite rap artists old and new, including videos and audio from Nas, Action Bronson, Ghostface Killah and Sheek Louch, Sir Michael Rocks of The Cool Kids, Joey Bada$$, Denmark Vessey, The Kid Daytona and Jadakiss, and Maryland’s own Uno Hype (my first time posting this kid’s stuff, he’s dope)…

The Great Debate
UncategorizedIn the spirit of today’s ganja holiday (OMG it’s 4/20!), I present to you two of the most legendary rappers to ever come out of the 914, Jadakiss and Styles P of The LOX, debating on which strand of weed is better, Purple Haze or Sour Diesel. It’s quite a discussion, with brilliant quotables. Kiss is for Haze, saying, “It’s tastes like the 90’s.” Styles is rocking’ with Sour though, as he responds, “I need some new shit, kid.” And it goes on from there. So dumb, yet so entertaining. Light up!
Spring Salad
UncategorizedThere’s a bunch of new hip-hop shit out that I’m feeling. Please allow me to put you on and recap some of the highlights of this past week in rap music. First, DMV representative Oddisee, who I know from my Maryland days, has a couple new songs out that I’m fuckin’ with. On the underground scene, he is highly respected for his production. But as a rapper, he’s kind of slept on. Ever since I heard him spitting on the Diamond District album and in this little video shot at Peter Rosenberg’s crib, I’ve been hoping he would drop some sort of solo project. And word is that he has a solo album coming out titled People Hear What They See (drops June 12th). Should be ill. Check out two new cuts of his, both which will not be on his new album, but are nevertheless worth repeated listens. First is “Hustle Off,” and the other is “Slow It Down” (download them for free too)…
You may have seen my recent post on a new rapper I really like out of Detroit/Chicago by the name of Denmark Vessey. Well, Quelle Chris is his boy (he’s on Denny’s “Green Party Swishercrat”), and is down with their Crown Nation conglomerate, and he has some heat too. His latest song/video “Live Alone Die Alone” is dope. Check it out below, and you can get his new EP 2Dirt4TV HERE.
Oh, and Denmark Vessey dropped some new shit this week too called “Cult Classic.” It’s so fresh that I’m gonna post it again for those of you that missed my update…
Ok, I’m not the biggest J. Cole fan, but “Sideline Story” is by far my favorite song of his. It’s the title track off his debut album, and this week, he dropped some visuals for it, showing him overseas during his European tour…
What else? Oh yeah, the most underrated rapper in the game, Curren$y! The Hot Spitta! Watch him close his eyes and murder this Alchemist beat with the laid-back, mean New Orleans flow, on DJ Tony Touch’s Toca Tuesdays Sirius/Shade 45 radio show…
And while we’re on the topic of Curren$y, his boy Young Roddy dropped a new mixtape recently titled Good Sense (download it HERE). Dude is nice with it, and picks quality beats for the blunted heads to bop to. Listen to the title track below, it’s very niiiice….
Finally, if you peeped my Leaders Of The New School post recently, you know that I really like this kid out of Brooklyn Joey Bada$$. Well, his boy from their Pro.Era crew Capital STEEZ has a new mixtape out (he’s the other rapper on “Survival Tactics,” and it’s definitely worth checking out. Joey makes an appearance, and even assists with the production/beat selection, but actually Capital STEEZ holds his own just fine and proves that the Pro.Era crew ain’t nothin’ to fuck with in 2012. Consider it a warm up for Joey Bada$$’s 1999 mixtape, which supposedly is dropping in the next month…

So that’s my Spring Salad. Mad flavor, right? Happy Friday the 13th! Enjoy your weekend Westcheddar…

Joey Bada$$ just dropped some new shit…
*WELCOME HOME ELIANA GRACE*
Rap Mitzvah
UncategorizedThis isn’t really one of my favorite Drake tracks on Take Care, but the video for “HYFR” is off the hook. Drizzly glorifies the passage to manhood with Lil’ Wayne by celebrating at the wildest Bar Mitzvah (well, Re-Bar Mitzvah) you’ve ever seen on camera.
I think I like this song a lot better now. L’Chaim!

Thai Joint
UncategorizedI stumbled upon this video by rapper Denmark Vessey called “That One Thai Joint” on Egotripland a week or so ago (watch above), and I love it. The beat is SICK. And dude can spit too. I immediately dug deeper to see what he was all about. Turns out he’s a Detroit native now holding it down in Chicago, and he’s starting to build a buzz with his “Leakly Weeks” series where he drops a new video every Monday. Check out “Green Party Swishercrat” below also, a smoker’s song of his that I’m feeling…
More on Denmark Vessey HERE, and follow him on Twitter to stay up on all his new shit. One.

What’s Woody
UncategorizedBeing a huge Woody Allen fan, I was hyped when his new documentary arrived on my doorstep last week. Turns out my Mom saw it on Amazon and had it shipped to me as a surprise. How cool is that? Anyway, after a long week of work and being a Dad, I finally found some time over the weekend while the kids were napping and my wife was out shopping to watch the two part doc in full. And though I admit I dozed off towards the end of part one with my younger son asleep on my chest (shit I was up on the morning shift feeding the kid at 6 A.M. what do you want from me?), I loved every minute of it. Check the trailer…
There are some great parts of this doc. Of course, the interviews with everyone are interesting, from Scarlett Johansson to Larry David, but the best is the behind the scenes access we get to Woody’s private life. He shows us the old ass typewriter he’s written every one of his movies on, and how he literally cuts and pastes his scripts together. Plus, he pulls out a pile of scrap papers he has compiled next to his bed, filled with notes and ideas that he turns into movie magic. Lots more stuff too as the doc runs through Woody’s entire career. Yo, dude has so many movies! There’s lots I need to catch up on for real for real. Stuff I not only hadn’t seen, but never even really heard of. Anyway, to get you warmed up some more, watch Filmmaker Robert Weide’s 12 Question interview with Woody Allen…
Cop the DVD HERE. Thanks Mom!
Bam Bam Bronson
UncategorizedAction Bronson has a new project coming out this month with producer Party Supplies called Blue Chips, sponsored by Complex and Reebok. To promote it, they put out a short video showcasing Bronson going in while Party Supplies freaks a sample on the MPC. Shout to my boy Kaliph for using this sample a couple years ago on a track we did together called “Shoot The Breeze.” Maybe one day I’ll release that. For now, here’s Bam Bam with the blam blam…
One more from Bronson (not on Blue Chips), featuring crazy ass white rapper RiFF RaFF, called “Bird on a Wire.” The video features Bronson rapping with two humugous spliffs dangling from his mouth and RR frontin’ on the 80’s celly while the rest of their pound walks the streets of Los Angeles with them in a drunken, smoked out haze. Hypnotically fun…
Blue Chips drops March 12th. Chhhhhhhhhheah.
