Rampage Rarity

Mixtape Memories, Music

Long Island Rap Blog, the same folks responsible for this sick Roc Marciano radio freestyle I posted a few days ago, just threw up this rare studio session version of one of my favorite rap songs ever, “Rampage” by EPMD and LL Cool J. On this version—which comes from a hard-to-find DJ Scratch EPMD mixtape—we get two LL verses and an alternate beat. Shit’s dope.

Merry Go Round

Late Pass, Music, The Good Old Days

Okay, my last post before I hit the hay. Damn I found some gems tonight! Here’s an oldie but goodie I discovered earlier on Soul Sides by The Equatics titled “Merry Go Round.” I’m loving this—thanks again to Oliver Wang for always coming with the ill selections.

Enjoy, and check below for more Thanksgiving throwbacks…

Squeeze First

Going back-to-back with the rare radio freestyles. Listen to Roc Marciano catch a body on Squeeze Radio back in ’04 over Common’s Large Professor-produced “Resurrection (Extra P. Remix)” instrumental—this shit is bananas.

The Roots

The Thanksgiving gems keep coming. Here’s an on-air freestyle from 1994 live on KALX in Berkeley, California featuring The Roots’ Black Thought on the mic and Rahzel on the beatbox. Thanks to Oliver Wang for preserving the audio—very fun. Listen below.

I Can’t Help It

Late Pass, Music, The Good Old Days

I’m on the hunt for gems this holiday weekend, so here’s the first of what will hopefully amount to a decent handful. Check out Stevie Wonder’s in-studio demo version of “I Can’t Help It,” a song he wrote for Michael Jackson’s classic Off The Wall album that was also sampled on De La Soul’s hypnotic Buhloone Mindstate single “Breakadawn.” Awesome.

Dear To Me

Music

Here’s a new one from Electric Guest. Been wondering what happened to these guys, their first album with Danger Mouse was dope.

Here’s a #ThrowbackThursday tape for your listening pleasure, courtesy of the one and only DJ Clue. It’s jam-packed with classics circa ’96 by Jay Z, Nas, Biggie, Wu-Tang Clan and more that many hip-hop heads still have in rotation today. Thanks to the homie DJ E-Feezy for the upload.
